Cellphones for Soldiers
Help Our Soldiers Call Home
During the month of July, all of our branches will be official drop-off locations for Cell Phones for Soldiers!
What is Cell Phones for Soldiers?
Cell Phones for Soldiers is a national nonprofit serving troops and veterans with free communication services and emergency funding. Cell Phones for Soldiers provides funds to veterans to alleviate communication challenges as well as physical, emotional, and assimilation hardships. CPFS has kept over 20 million phones out of landfills and provided over 400 million minutes of free talk time to soldiers oversees.
What kind of devices can be donated?
We are asking our Employees and Members to donate:
all types of cell phones, smartphones, tablets, and mp3 players from any carrier. This also includes broken and outdated mobile phones.
Newer, gently used mobile devices, including smartphones, are preferred.
If you have a charger to donate, please keep the original phone and charger together.
If you cannot factory reset your phone, CPFS recycling partner is up to DOD standards, R2 and NAID AAA certified for wiping devices.
What does CPFS do with the donated cell phones?
Mobile devices and tablets donated to Cell Phones for Soldiers are sold either to an electronic refurbisher or a recycler. Once they receive a donated device, it is wiped of all personal information and checked to see if it is repairable. A cell phone that is repairable is sold to an electronics refurbisher who will repair the device and resell it in the aftermarket. However, devices that are either too old or completely broken are sold to recyclers who strip the devices of any salvageable components and/or rare metals, then responsibly recycle the remaining parts. The proceeds from this process are used to purchase prepaid international calling cards for troops and to provide emergency funding to veterans.
